Memphis Fashion Week Recap | 20169:00 AM
Hey Guys so I know it has been forever since I posted on my blog. To be honest I have been in a bit of a creative rut with doing school work and working really hard on my designing. Speaking of designing in today's post I am going to be sharing with you guys my experience with being a designer in Memphis Fashion Week. If you follow my YouTube channel then you can watch videos on my entire experience with this show. The last video with the footage of the actual fashion show will be up soon so subscribe so you don't miss it!
VIP Preview Party
The first event I attended was the VIP party were the VIP ticket holders got to get up close and personal with our garments. This was the first time I had actually seen my garment on a person. It was the most amazing feeling I had ever experienced seeing how beautiful my creation looked. Shout out to Olivia who was my freeze model for that night because she looked so amazing. Her agency: Meka Model Management @mekamodelmgmt
Fashion Fund Party
The second event I attended was the Fashion Fund Party were all these stores who supported Memphis Fashion Week were serving refreshments and offering discounts. My mom ended up buying this really great smelling perfume from one of the stores that we are obsesses with. I got to take some really fun pictures at this fountain. The highlight of my night was when I did a spot interview for this television show called The Style Center. Its a show produced by L3 Media Productions were they talk about all things fashion in Memphis. If your in the Memphis Area you can watch is every Wednesday Channel 31 Comcast at 10 pm.
Featured Designer Show at The Cadre Building
The third event of the week I attended was the featured designers show. These are the people who have been really making a name for themselves in the fashion world. My favorite collection was the Hayley Paige Bridal Collections. My phone had died so I wasn't able to get any picture of that collection. The wedding dresses were incredibly gorgeous ,and were definitely head turners.
EMDP Runway Show at Memphis College of Art
The last event was the Emerging Designers show which featured my design as well as some other local designers. We had to be at the event at 8 am in the morning for model fitting. In case you don't know I am pretty much no good until about 9 am ,so I was like a zombie for a while. During the model fitting I noticed a bit of a problem with my garment. My front seam had bunched up in a very unattractive way that I could not see when the models were standing still. But when my model was practicing walking you could really see it. As expected I had a small panic attack because I didn't really know what to do. We moved the skirt so the zipper was on the side ,but it still didn't look amazing like it did before. Then the stylist assisting me asked me if I wanted to try something different ,and at the point I didn't have much of a choice. He adjusted the skirt so the zipper was in the front of the garment. I thought it was okay ,but I wasn't totally in love with it at the time. I took some pictures went home to think on it a little. We came back at around 3:30 for photo shoots. By this time they had finished her hair and makeup for the show. When I saw her walk out I was instantly in love with the outfit! Once they had finished everything I didn't even care that I had to do something different with the zipper.
Later that night at 8 pm the show started ,and everything was just what I could hope for. I got to meet so many amazing people including my too new friends Denise and Shakia.
This experience was just so inspiring and amazing. I meet so many people that gave me advice and encouragement to really pursue my dreams. I have even decided to make a whole collection centered around my Fashion Week garment. I am so excited to show you guys and I will definitely be posting picture on my social media.
